162712520The reasons for an open day that were mentioned in a previous blog may be enough in themselves to persuade your company or institution to organise an open day. Of course you want to maintain contact with your clients and business partners, of course you want your product to sell well and of course you want to generate a positive image and name recognition. But the following reasons might also motivate you to consider an open day.

  • Maintaining a good relationship with the surrounding area
  • Staff recruitment
  • Staff motivation

Maintaining a good relationship with the surrounding area

Where is your company located? On an industrial estate, in a city centre, in a residential area? Wherever you are based, you will of course want to have a good relationship with your surrounding area. One of the ways of achieving that is to involve the local area in your company. You not only want to be a good neighbour, but also to contribute something to the success of your immediate environment. On the other hand, it’s also good for you to know what’s going on in the local area. By organising an open day, you can facilitate discussions with local residents and people from the region. Show them who you are and what you do and what you stand for.

Staff recruitment

This is directly linked to the concept of ‘employment opportunities’. Depending on the size of your company and your activities, you might be a company that can offer a lot of local people a job. This gives a positive image to the presence of your company in the area. By opening your doors, you can encourage interested parties from the surrounding area to come and see you.  If you’ve got vacancies, you don’t need to place job ads straightaway but can instead provide potential candidates with all the information they need.  You can show them directly what you have to offer, possibly give a live demonstration of what the job involves and discuss it in greater depth. Potential candidates will experience the atmosphere within the company, will have a realistic picture of the job and will be more likely to apply. Which means you will find the right employees. If you give potential applicants a promotional item or a business gift with an imprint of your site or contact details, your job vacancies will be easy to find.

Staff motivation

Get your staff to guide your guests around your premises and to explain what you do and what goes on behind the scenes. Perhaps you might want to consider inviting family and friends of staff members. You will be surprised at how proud your staff will be to take guests around on an open day. The fact that your employees are proud of their company and are right behind the product will obviously have a positive impact on your guests. There is obviously no one better than your employees to tell your clients and guests that you are a good employer with the right attitude towards its staff, clients and products. Take advantage of this. Together with your employees, you can make the open day a team building exercise.

How do you make your open day a success? We will be talking more about that soon…
